On average, each year the Institute implements about 5 to 10 S&T projects/tasks at various levels. Most of these projects originate from actual production conditions at factories and companies of various Ministries/Sectors, focusing on research, new design, improvement design, equipment manufacturing, restoration and repair of high-economic-value equipment and machine parts. The projects undertaken by the Institute serve the cement, chemical, coal-fired thermal power, hydropower, oil and gas, mining, construction materials industries... meeting the goals of localization, foreign currency savings, and proactivity in production planning, avoiding dependence on foreign suppliers. Many projects, after completion, have been effectively applied in projects, factories, and production facilities and are highly appreciated.
Pursuant to Decision No. 1618/QĐ-BCT dated June 18, 2020 of the Minister of Ministry of Industry and Trade approving the List of science and technology tasks ordered for 2021 (Batch 2) under the “National Key Science and Technology Program for Innovation and Modernization of Mineral Exploitation and Processing Technology to 2025”, the Institute participated in the selection of organizations and individuals to lead the implementation of the following 4 S&T tasks:
1. Research on developing optimal operation schemes at different power ranges on the existing production line of Nhan Co Alumina Plant;
2. Application of anti-fouling impeller system using Swirl flow technology to replace traditional impellers of the crystallization system of alumina plants;
3. Application of oxalate removal technology using post-concentration solution flow method for Lam Dong Alumina Plant;
4. Application of automation to control the mud bed of red mud washing and settling equipment in the Alumina production line.
