On October 26, 2024, the workshop “Metal Wear – Wear Measurement Methods and Solutions for Improving Wear Resistance” was successfully held in Hanoi, making a meaningful contribution to the overall development of the mechanical engineering sector and promoting linkages among units and individuals operating in fields related to metal wear.
The workshop was organized by the Key Laboratory of Welding Technology and Surface Treatment – National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with the Vietnam Welding Science and Technology Association (VWS), with media companionship from the Vietnam Mechanical Engineering Magazine and support from Bao Chi Co., Ltd. (BCC) and several other units (TOMECO, LOESCHE, VISCONDT, DOUBLE GOOD, KDTEC, ANTON PAAR,...).
Wear is one of the main causes of damage and reduced performance of mechanisms and machinery operating under harsh working conditions. In practice, there are many forms of wear. Manufacturing plants are particularly interested in wear control measures as well as solutions to improve wear resistance. Stemming from this great need, the Organizing Committee hoped that the workshop would create an opportunity for exchange and update of information, connecting industrial manufacturing enterprises with research institutions and units providing anti-wear solutions. Current standards and wear measurement methods to assess workability under different wear agents were also introduced.
Attending the workshop were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thu Quy, Director of the Key Laboratory of Welding Technology and Surface Treatment (KEYLABWS). On the guest side, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Chuong - Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Mechanical Engineering Associations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Van Hanh - President of the Vietnam Welding Science and Technology Association; Dr. Do Quoc Quang - Director of the National Key Science and Technology Program on Mechanical Engineering and Automation (KC03); Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Chien - Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Automation & Environmental Science and Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duc Cuong - Director of the HaUI Institute of Technology (Hanoi University of Industry); Mr. Do Hoai Nam - Chairman of Hanoi Mechanical Company. Also attending the workshop were over 100 delegates, including managers, production engineers, scientists, and final-year students from the University of Engineering and Technology (VNU Hanoi), Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The workshop was broadcast live online and attracted over 100 viewers.
In his welcome speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Chuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Mechanical Engineering Associations, affirmed that the welding industry is one of the key industries in the entire mechanical engineering sector, and the Vietnam Welding Science and Technology Association is also a strong association, always leading the activities of the Vietnam Union of Mechanical Engineering Associations. Over the years, the Vietnam Welding Science and Technology Association has achieved many great successes, regularly organizing domestic and international workshops, and has close ties with many organizations and colleagues around the world. Today's workshop “Metal Wear – Wear Measurement Methods and Solutions for Improving Wear Resistance” will produce results contributing to the scientific development of the welding industry and create linkages among all colleagues in the welding as well as the mechanical engineering industry.
Eleven reports were presented, including 1 overview report, 5 reports on the current state of wear in industry and anti-wear solutions, and 5 reports on wear measurement methods. The participating units brought 3 wear measurement devices for demonstration. Many products and technological solutions related to the workshop theme were also displayed and introduced.
List of 11 reports:
The workshop concluded in a joyful atmosphere and great success, creating opportunities for managers, production engineers, scientists, and students to exchange and update information, and to connect industrial manufacturing enterprises with research institutions and units providing anti-wear and wear measurement solutions.
