The materials industry and the mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry play a very important role in the national economy, yet their current development status is not commensurate with their position and potential. The Workshop on the Materials Industry and the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Industry in Vietnam in the New Phase, held on the morning of June 15, comprehensively assessed the position, role, development status, difficulties, obstacles, and bottlenecks, and discussed solutions to promote and develop these foundational and core industries of the nation. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Hong Dien chaired the workshop.

According to data from the General Statistics Office and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the production scale of the entire mechanical engineering industry grew rapidly during the 2018-2025 period. The total mechanical engineering production value increased from approximately 1,626.3 trillion VND in 2018 to about 3,225.5 trillion VND in 2025, nearly doubling; the average growth rate is estimated at about 10.3% per year. Exports of machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts rose from 384.7 trillion VND in 2018 to 1,557.7 trillion VND in 2025.

On May 19, Member of the Politburo and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc, together with Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu, chaired a working session with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and several other ministries and sectors on the Draft Decree detailing certain articles and measures to organize and guide the implementation of the National Assembly's Resolution No. 253/2025/QH15 on mechanisms and policies for national energy development in the period 2026-2030.
