On January 9, 2026, the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Ministry of Industry and Trade) held a conference to review the work of 2025 and outline tasks for 2026.
Grasping Major Economic Programs
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Phan Đăng Phong, Director of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NARIME), stated that in 2025, the Institute continued to develop science and technology projects/topics at various levels, closely following the State's major economic programs and the Institute's work orientations such as: coal thermal power equipment, solar power, waste heat power, nuclear power, automotive assembly technology and equipment lines, bauxite production, industrial waste treatment, inner-city, inter-regional and high-speed railways; new manufacturing or restoration, replacement of equipment in cement, chemical industries...
Mr. Phan Văn Bản, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, speaking at the conference
In the process of implementation, the Institute organized close supervision, ensuring progress, quality, and registered content in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the State and the Institute. However, the Institute still needed to organize better management to ensure successful implementation of projects/topics that have been and are being registered.
During the year, the Institute continued to orient its Research Centers to specialize in fields such as new energy, mineral extraction, chemicals, robotics, and automotive assembly lines... creating distinct strengths to continue stable development and secure long-term work.
In addition, in general management, ISO certificates and the Institute's internal rules and regulations were well maintained. However, it is necessary to continue researching and innovating new management methods to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and legal compliance to ensure the Institute's sustainable development.
Reporting in detail on the Institute's activities, Dr. Phan Hữu Thắng, Deputy Director of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering, stated that regarding the implementation of science and technology tasks, in 2025 the Institute took the lead, coordinated with VAMI and Departments/Bureaus of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement and complete the "Project on developing electrical mechanical engineering, improving localization rate" and the "Project on developing Vietnam's railway industry".
The Institute continued to perform well in science and technology information work, organizing and participating in specialized scientific conferences both within and outside the Institute. The entire Institute had 25 domestic scientific articles/reports and 33 international articles published in journals and proceedings of specialized conferences, with 4 products registered for intellectual property.
As of December 31, 2025, the Institute's contracted value reached 155% of the annual plan. Most Centers met and exceeded their assigned plans. Some units made great efforts and opened up development directions based on their research foundations, such as the Heavy Machinery Center with jigs for electric car production lines, the Industrial Design Consulting Center with consulting for bauxite mining and processing industry, the Power Machinery Center with waste heat equipment systems for cement plants, the Mechanical Manufacturing Center with smart warehouses...
At the same time, training tasks were well performed. Currently, the Institute manages 21 PhD candidates, of which 8 are institute staff. In 2025, 4 PhD candidates successfully defended at the institute level and received their degrees, and 6 new PhD candidates were enrolled. In addition, 14 thesis defense councils at various levels were organized; co-authored 3 international scientific articles/reports, 7 domestic articles, participated in compiling 1 monograph and 1 university textbook.
Dr. Phan Đăng Phong, Director of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering, speaking
International cooperation tasks were also emphasized, promoted, and increasingly effective. The Institute's leadership coordinated with units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade such as the Foreign Market Department and the Trade Promotion Agency to participate in conferences, seminars, and sign bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements to introduce and promote the Institute's activities and image. Alongside that, continued to create conditions for training and fostering staff with foreign language skills to supplement human resources for major international cooperation projects.
For domestic cooperation, the Institute signed cooperation agreements with companies and representatives of foreign equipment suppliers, and most recently a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Vietnam Petroleum Power Corporation to coordinate research, repair, and upgrade systems to achieve green, clean standards and improve production efficiency.
Deeper Research in Many Fields
On July 30, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 2179/QĐ-BCT stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering, according to which the Institute's management model still focuses on implementing and perfecting management according to the existing model and gradually adjusting the operating mechanism to comply with state regulations for public service units in the new development phase of the country.
Delegates attending the Conference to review the work of 2025 and outline tasks for 2026 of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering
The Institute developed and submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade the project on the Institute's Development Strategy for the period 2026-2035 with a vision to 2050, which was approved by the Ministry under Decision No. 3502/QĐ-BCT dated November 28, 2025, clearly stating the orientation for scientific and technological research and production-business in fields such as new energy and renewable energy, along with continuing to promote strengths in hydropower, thermal power, mineral mining and processing, cement production... while preparing for changes and integration in the coming time.
Based on that, regarding the orientation and tasks of the Institute for 2026, Dr. Phan Đăng Phong affirmed that the Institute always identifies and considers scientific and technological activities as the core; the effectiveness of economic activities must be based on the outcomes of scientific and technological activities. The Institute still advocates linking scientific and technological activities with the country's key socio-economic programs.
Continue to organize deeper research in the fields of gas thermal power, new energy, renewable energy, automation, inner-city, inter-regional and high-speed railways... to ensure the Institute has a competitive advantage in technology, while building the Institute's reputation in the market and concentrating resources for large projects.
In addition, propose state-level and ministry-level science and technology topics/projects for the period 2026-2030 with the goal of innovation, practicality, and effectiveness according to the actual needs of domestic and foreign industries.
Dr. Phan Đăng Phong also said that in 2026, the Institute will continue to orient its production and business activities towards key areas such as: Design and supply of equipment for thermal power plants, solar power plants, equipment systems for mineral mining and processing - bauxite, chemicals, jigs and equipment in the automotive and motorcycle manufacturing sector, smart warehouses...
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phan Văn Bản, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, acknowledged that the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering is one of the institutes with the largest scale of staff, capacity, and leading scientific research activities under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In 2026, besides continuing to maintain, consolidate and develop traditional work areas such as designing, manufacturing and supplying spare parts, warranty and maintenance services for thermal power, hydropower, cement, chemical plants...; the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering will gradually expand its activities in designing and supplying synchronous equipment lines; equipment and spare parts for domestic enterprises and with an orientation towards export. In which, focus on researching and approaching the fields of gas power, nuclear power, inner-city, inter-regional and high-speed railways.
