The National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NARIME) was established on July 6, 1962, with its first name being the "Institute of Mechanical Design and Manufacturing" under the Ministry of Heavy Industry (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade). It is a state research and development agency for science and technology in the field of mechanical engineering and has over 60 years of operation in the fields of mechanical engineering and automation.

Since 2012, the Institute has invested resources to build human resources and facilities to research and apply advanced technologies from countries around the world to design, manufacture, and master equipment lines and welding jigs for automobiles according to the standards of major car brands popular in Vietnam such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. With a team of nearly 400 staff and design engineers, including 25 engineers trained and guided by Japanese and Korean experts, the Institute has supplied many products exported to South Korea, Thailand, Japan, and the United States. Through this, it has supported dozens of Vietnamese manufacturing units in accessing and developing the potential market for automotive welding jigs in the country.

From 2019 to the present, the Institute continues to enhance the capacity of its design and manufacturing team, focusing on supporting manufacturing units to further develop the domestic automotive welding jig market. The Institute proactively approached and introduced its capabilities to automobile manufacturers in Vietnam such as VinFast, Ford, etc., and secured its first contract for supplying a 10.5 m electric bus welding jig line in 2019. This was followed by projects supplying equipment lines, welding jigs, and inspection jigs for VinFast's electric vehicle models such as: VFe34, VF8, VF9, VF5, VF6, VF7, VF3, Limo Green with left-hand drive and right-hand drive for domestic and foreign markets. These are tasks previously only performed by major foreign contractors (such as Germany, Japan, South Korea, etc.).
