Abstract: Currently, Vietnam has over 40 coal-fired thermal power plants, with more than 80 boilers. To ensure continuous water supply for the boilers, each boiler is equipped with 3 pumps. Thus, the total number of feed water pumps is approximately 240 units. At present, all feed water pumps must be imported, mainly from the United States and a few other countries, at a cost of about 1,000,000 USD per set with a lead time of 6 to 8 months. When a failure occurs in one of the critical components or parts, the feed water pump must be stopped, and the boiler also has to be shut down. This causes great losses for the power plant and the national electricity output. Researching the design of feed water pump components for domestic restoration work is an urgent issue. A group of scientific staff from the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Ministry of Industry and Trade, has carried out restoration work and put the machines into operation in a timely manner, achieving performance indicators equivalent to the original ones.
