The National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering plans to organize the Institute-level defense of the Doctoral Thesis for PhD candidate Ngô Xuân Cường at the end of May 2023. The Institute hereby announces the doctoral thesis information as follows:

Full name of PhD candidate: Ngô Xuân Cường

Supervisors:  Dr. Nguyễn Hà Tuấn and Dr. Nguyễn Tuấn Anh

Field: Mechanical Engineering - Code: 9520103

Training institution: National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering - Ministry of Industry and Trade

Thesis title: “Research on plasma spray coating technology to create silicon carbide coating on steel surface for corrosion protection in fluorine-containing acid environment”

Summary of novel conclusions of the thesis:

- This is the first work in Vietnam to study the technology of creating plasma SiC/Cu coating on steel surface. A plasma SiC-50Cu coating was successfully created on steel surface with thickness > 200 µm; porosity 1.4%; adhesion strength 39 MPa; coating hardness about 295 HV; SiC content >53%.

- The study determined the particle size and mixing ratio of SiC/Cu to ensure the coating formation process meets subsequent research requirements. Analyzed the plasma coating process, improved the spray gun under Ar shielding gas. Used Taguchi method combined with ANOVA analysis to optimize technological parameters affecting output quality indicators. Established a set of technological parameters (Current I, Spray distance L, Powder feed rate M) suitable for creating plasma SiC-50Cu coating on C45 steel surface: I=416A, L=45mm, and M=32 g/min.

- Designed and manufactured a mixed wear testing device compatible with actual conditions, established an experimental procedure, and evaluated the wear resistance of the coating.

- The research results of the Thesis contribute to creating a corrosion protection solution for equipment and structures working in chemical corrosion environments, specifically by creating protective coatings on impellers and pump blades operating in fluorine-containing acid environments.

- Contributes to improving expertise and supplementing technical documentation for spray coating technology.
