This event aimed to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Korea in the field of technology transfer, cooperation in supplying equipment, equipment lines, and accompanying services for projects invested in Vietnam by Korean enterprises. The working session took place with the support and connection of the Vietnam Trade Office in Korea.
At the working session, Dr. Phan Dang Phong, President of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Ministry of Industry and Trade), shared the capacity and experience of Vietnamese enterprises in the field of design, supply of equipment, and complete equipment lines in the industrial sector.
Accordingly, in recent times, with priority support mechanisms and policies from the Vietnamese Government in research and technology transfer activities, along with the efforts of research institutes and Vietnamese enterprises in investing to enhance capacity and master technology, domestic units have achieved many successes in scientific research and production and business activities in fields such as hydropower, thermal power, bauxite, cement, solar power, and automation in production processes...
At the same time, international cooperation tasks with foreign partners, including Korea, have always been focused on, promoted, and increasingly effective. Many research results and science and technology transfers have been carried out between Vietnamese research institutes and enterprises in general, and the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering in particular, with Korean units.

At the working session, Korean enterprises expressed their desire to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam and their need to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises in technology transfer
“Currently, NARIME is also cooperating with Doosan and Hyundai in designing and supplying equipment for thermal power plants in Vietnam such as Quang Trach 1 and Vung Ang 2. This is an important premise for Vietnamese enterprises to confidently affirm to the Korean side that they will cooperate effectively in coordinating the implementation of related tasks in the coming time when many enterprises in Korea will invest in Vietnam” - Dr. Phan Dang Phong stated.
Opening up many new opportunities in cooperation
Mr. Lee Si Hyung - Director of the LEE & KIM Fund, representing Zenith Group and Korean enterprises, stated that in the coming time, some Korean enterprises want to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam and have a need to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises in technology transfer, supply of equipment, equipment lines, construction and installation, and accompanying services.
Specifically, Hankook Tire & Technology and DAS expressed their desire to find business opportunities, cooperate in investing in building factories in Vietnam with new product lines for electric vehicles, and simultaneously seek suppliers of components and spare parts and expand their global business network.
In addition, the LEE & KIM Fund also hopes that the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering will connect to seek cooperation opportunities to support young talents from Vietnam and Korea in starting businesses, as well as social welfare projects that bring mutual benefits to both countries.
Mr. Lee Si Hyung also shared about the project of LG Energy Solution, which plans to invest in building a factory to produce a new generation of batteries for phones and tablets with an expected investment of 420 million USD; and the project of Hitejinro, the largest beer and liquor company in Korea, which recently decided to invest 100 million USD to build a Soju production factory in Thai Binh.

“This is a great opportunity for the two sides to cooperate with each other because through these cooperations, the Vietnamese side will have many opportunities to enhance its capacity to master technology in related fields, creating more jobs for enterprises in Vietnam. The Korean side will also achieve projects at more reasonable costs along with faster and more efficient services during the subsequent operation of equipment lines” - Mr. Lee Si Hyung emphasized.
Dr. Phan Dang Phong affirmed that Vietnamese enterprises fully meet the needs from the Korean side and proposed that the two sides develop a program with specific projects for more detailed discussions in the near future.
“We hope that cooperation with Zenith Group, the LEE & KIM Fund, Hankook Tire & Technology, and DAS will become increasingly closer to promote the application of modern techniques in production, thereby bringing enormous potential benefits not only to the units but also creating socio-economic and environmental impacts when the results of scientific and technological research are widely applied and disseminated” - Dr. Phan Dang Phong said.
Science and technology are increasingly having a strong impact on life and socio-economics. By strengthening coordination to promote cooperation in various fields, Korea and Vietnam will maximize each other's strengths and can jointly address the challenges they face through science and technology cooperation.
The two sides acknowledged and agreed to hold subsequent working sessions in the near future through the bridge of the Vietnam Trade Office. This will contribute to the implementation of the Action Program to realize the Vietnam - Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
