Abstract: In this study, SiC-50Cu composite coatings were deposited on steel substrates using plasma spray coating technology in an argon atmosphere. The plasma spray parameters were (i) 50SiC:50Cu powder feedstock, (ii) powder feed rate 40 g/min, (iii) air spray rate 200 L/min, (iv) plasma current 400 A, (v) spray distance 50 mm. After plasma spray coating, the composite coating was characterized by various techniques. The composite coating exhibited an adhesion strength of 36 MPa, porosity of 1.29%, hardness of 307 HV, and SiC phase content of 65%. A mixed chamber corrosion test was used to evaluate the performance of the SiC-50Cu coating for corrosion protection of industrial impellers and pump chambers in a corrosive environment containing fluorine.
