The emulation movement linked with scientific research has helped the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering successfully manufacture many modern devices, saving hundreds of billions of VND for the country.

The emulation movement closely tied to research and innovation tasks

Presenting a discussion paper at the 4th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Industry and Trade sector, period 2025 - 2030, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the morning of September 30, Director of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering Phan Đăng Phong stated that, in response to the patriotic emulation call of the Party, the Government, Ministry of Industry and Trade, in recent years, the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering has actively implemented many emulation movements closely tied to scientific research tasks.

In scientific research and technology transfer, the emulation movements "Skilled Labor, Creative Labor", "Innovation in Scientific Research" have motivated the team of officials, engineers, and workers to research and successfully manufacture equipment and complete equipment lines in the industrial field.

Many of the Institute's technological products have been applied in key national projects, saving hundreds of billions of VND in foreign currency for the country. 

For example, in the automotive and motorcycle sector, the institute is the leading unit in the country for designing, manufacturing, and supplying equipment lines for automotive body welding jigs according to international standards. The institute's products are applied to most car models produced by Vinfast Company such as: VFe34, VF8, VF9, VF5, VF6, VF7, VF3, LIMO7,...

Regarding the thermal power sector, according to Decision No. 1791/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister on "Approving the mechanism for pilot implementation of domestic design and manufacturing of thermal power plant equipment for the period 2012 - 2025", the institute was assigned the task of presiding and coordinating with domestic mechanical enterprises to design and manufacture equipment for thermal power plants. To date, the institute has fully mastered the coal supply, ash and slag disposal, electrostatic dust filtration, and fire protection systems applied at the Vũng Áng 1, Thái Bình 1, Hậu River 1, Nghi Sơn 2, Quảng Trạch 1 projects - a task that was previously difficult and the exclusive domain of foreign contractors.

"The self-reliance on these systems has contributed to high economic efficiency, reduced costs, and proactiveness in the maintenance and repair work of the investor," Mr. Phong said. 

In addition, there are many other technological fields that the institute has researched and mastered, such as: Surplus power plant field; raw material production field; new energy and green transition field; high technology field; hydraulic mechanical equipment for hydropower projects; mineral exploitation and processing field.

The Director of National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering further informed that in organizational building and human resource development, through the emulation movement, the institute has gradually improved the quality of its staff with nearly 420 personnel, most of whom are engineers, masters, doctors, and leading experts in the field of mechanical engineering - automation. Many advanced typical examples have been honored, contributing to spreading the spirit of creativity and dedication throughout the Institute.

In the past 5 years, the institute has boosted its production and business activities with an average revenue of over 1,600 billion VND/year, and the living standards of the institute's officials and employees have been increasingly improved and enhanced.

Focusing on mastering wind power, gas power, and nuclear power technology

Besides that, the work of Party building and development at the Institute has always been prioritized. Scientific publication and intellectual property registration activities in the period 2020 - 2025 have achieved many results. Specifically, 104 international articles, 194 domestic articles, 12 monographs in the field of mechanical engineering, and many patents and utility solutions have been published.

With the achievements attained in scientific research, the Institute's individuals and collectives have been awarded many major science awards such as the Hồ Chí Minh Award, the First, Second, Third prizes for Vietnamese scientific creativity (VIFOTEC)...

"The successes of the institute, besides the efforts and endeavors of the collective and staff of the Institute, also owe a great deal to the accurate and appropriate guidance from the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade," expressed the Director of National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering.

Through the emulation movement, the institute has drawn some lessons: emulation must be linked to political tasks and long-term development goals; put people at the center, promote collective intelligence and individual initiatives; emulation must have specific targets, with preliminary reviews, final summaries, and timely rewards to create motivation.

Sharing about the direction in the coming time, Mr. Phan Đăng Phong said that the institute will focus on the following key tasks: Continue to deploy the patriotic emulation movement linked with the Institute's Development Strategy to 2035, with a vision to 2050; strive to become the leading unit in the country in the field of designing and manufacturing equipment and complete equipment lines in the industrial sector. Promote emulation in research and mastery of technology in key fields such as offshore wind power equipment, gas power equipment, nuclear power plant equipment, and railway transportation equipment.

Build a team of highly qualified personnel, promote the movement "Every engineer is an initiative, every department is an innovation center". Actively participate in the emulation movements launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, contributing to the successful realization of the development goals of the Industry and Trade sector and the cause of national industrialization and modernization.

In response to the policy of streamlining the apparatus according to Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the Politburo, the institute has been synchronously implementing solutions to restructure the organization, reduce administrative units, and link the responsibility of heads with operational efficiency.

"This is not only a practical response to the patriotic emulation movement of the Industry and Trade sector, but also a strategic step for the Institute to develop sustainably, become a strong science and technology organization, and contribute to the successful realization of the country's industrialization and modernization goals," Director Phan Đăng Phong affirmed.

The 4th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Industry and Trade sector is an important occasion to comprehensively summarize and evaluate the patriotic emulation movement among officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the Industry and Trade sector for the period 2020 - 2025.

At the same time, it is an occasion to commend and honor advanced typical collectives and individuals, exemplary and outstanding examples in labor, work, creativity, and dedication; together with that, to determine the direction, goals, tasks, and solutions to continue promoting the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2025 - 2030.
