National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering: Actively Participating in the Automotive Supporting Industry

National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NARIME) is currently a supplier of equipment lines, main welding jigs, replacing foreign contractors for automobile manufacturing plants.

According to Decision No. 876/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister on “Approving the Action Program on green energy transition, reduction of carbon and methane emissions in the transport sector”, in which the Ministry of Industry and Trade was assigned the task “To take the lead in developing the industry of manufacturing vehicles and transport equipment using electricity and green energy; producing and supplying electricity and green energy to replace fossil fuels to meet domestic demand; expanding the blending and supply of biofuels; developing charging systems for electricity and green energy for transport vehicles”.

Implementing the tasks and directives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, recently, the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (NARIME) has been actively participating in the supporting industry for automobile manufacturing and the chain of global green energy transition and green transport activities.

NARIME is being selected by VinFast electric vehicle manufacturer as the supplier of equipment lines and welding jigs for various types of electric buses, a type of public green transport that major cities are planning to prioritize in the coming time.

Sharing about this, Dr. Phan Đăng Phong, Director of the National Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering said that, with the assessment of the automobile and motorcycle market being a large market and if mastering the supply of auxiliary systems and equipment in this field, it would open a new and sustainable development direction for the Institute. Starting from 2012, NARIME has chosen to invest resources to build a team and facilities to research, design, manufacture, and master the technology of various types of automobile welding jigs according to the standards of major automobile manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, with the initial predecessor being a team of over 20 cadres and design engineers from the Heavy Mechanical Center under the Institute, under the guidance and training of Japanese and Korean experts.

By 2024, after more than 12 years of construction and development in this field, NARIME has had a team of over 50 engineers specializing in designing and manufacturing domestic automobile assembly lines and automobile welding jigs, established a network of hundreds of domestic and international suppliers and partners, implemented projects with a total value of over 800 billion VND per year. The Institute has equipped many licensed specialized design software, creating the best conditions for the design team's activities.

Along with the efforts, always actively and proactively learning, researching advanced technologies, modern and diverse equipment, the design team, in the process of implementation, the Institute has always received the attention and support of the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology in supporting and strengthening the capacity for research, design, manufacturing, and integration of equipment lines and automobile welding jigs. The Institute has advised and selected optimal solutions, suitable to the requirements of many different customers.

“Currently, NARIME is a supplier of equipment lines, main welding jigs, replacing foreign contractors for large automobile manufacturing plants in the country. One of NARIME's current customers is VinFast automobile manufacturer of Vietnam” - Dr. Phan Đăng Phong said.

Specifically, NARIME has been designing, manufacturing, integrating, installing, and guiding the operation of equipment lines and welding jigs for VinFast's electric car models.

The first project that NARIME carried out for VinFast was supplying a welding jig line for 10.5m electric buses from 2019, followed by projects supplying equipment lines, welding jigs, and inspection jigs for VinFast's electric car models such as VFe34; VF8; VF9; VF5; VF6; VF7; VF3. These are tasks that previously were only carried out by large foreign contractors (such as Thailand; Germany...), and no domestic unit has been able to undertake.
